Sepia eggs 2
Sepia eggs 2: From sketch to painting, an explosion of colours emerges from the darkness of water
It’s a challenge for a painter to determine when an artwork is finished. In 2020, I made a photographic session of my work. Sepia eggs 2, a large painting that I considered finished for a long time, looked to me more like a sketch in progress than like a fully polychrome completed painting.
At some point in the past, I took distance from colour. As a result, I came back to the essential and gave more attention to form, to materials, to black and white. That’s how sepia powder started to play an important role in my work. Lately I started to work on Sepia eggs 2 again, and added it more light, colour, transparency and depth. The more layers are applied, the more saturated the colours are. Sepia eggs 2 ‘s background is made of self made paint (sepia pigment mixed with linseed oil). The upper layers (lines, dots and planes) are applied in multiple thin layers.
This extra-large painting is 150 cm high and 200 cm wide. Its size makes it a perfect painting for large rooms with straight walls. A contrasted dark- bright coloured style makes this artwork suitable for modern interiors, living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, as well as offices and open business spaces.
