Hanami 3: In 1985-1986 I spent six months in Japan. This experience has been like planting a seed in my further development.
The way Japanese people deal with the topic “nature-culture” for instance had a big impact on me. The series “Hanami” (2011-2014) is inspired by the ritual of viewing and appreciating the cherry blossom. I made those works with oil paint and self-made sepia paint on jute.
“Hanami” (“the feast of the contemplation of sherry blossom”) is a traditional season feast in Japan. The tsunami took place while I was working on “Hanami 1” in 2011 (Private collection France).
“Hanami 3” takes place at the same location as “Hanami 1” and “Hanami 2”. In “Hanami 3”, people are back, enjoying the celebration again. The painting is abstract and figurative at the same time, people don’t seem to have a full individuality.
Planes, dots, lines, colour contrasts are characteristic of this artwork. This painting is H 110 cm x W 110 cm and is decorated with a lovely golden frame, it will fit nicely in a eating room, a living room or an office. A beautiful adornment for celebrations!
