Agnès Bompy: Dual Exhibition in the Netherlands Explores the Boundary Between Matter and Spirit

This autumn, French-Dutch artist Agnès Bompy (1961) presents a dual exhibition in the Netherlands. With paintings that balance between chance and intention, she invites the viewer to explore the boundary between matter and spirit.

A total of eight series, created between 1992 and 2025, will be on display, addressing themes such as identity, time, loss, and spirituality. Bompy works in cycles and series, where layered textures and subtle symbolism challenge the viewer to feel rather than understand.

“My work emerges at the intersection of the tangible and the invisible,” says Agnès Bompy. “Each canvas is a dialogue between what I let go of and what reveals itself.”

Rotterdam – Alliance Française (July 8 to October 4, 2025)
Features the series “Beaches, Oysters, Roots” and “Hanami”, focusing on nature and transience.

Amsterdam – Keizersgrachtkerk (August 31 to November 30, 2025)
Presents six series centered around art and spirituality, including Planets, Thorns, and Corona.
Special Art & Music Inspiration Afternoon on Sunday, October 12, 2025, featuring a concert by singer-songwriter Magali Michaut.
(Sundays 12:30–2:00 PM and by appointment)

About Agnès Bompy

Agnès Bompy is a French-Dutch painter who has been creating series of works since the 1980s that make the invisible tangible. Her work has previously been exhibited in the Netherlands, France, and Poland, and is held in private and corporate collections in France, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Belgium, and the US.
