“Letting Go, Loss, Separation, Disappearance, Death” series (2022–2025): Rex Daeorum (After Holbein)

Rex Daeorum (after Holbein), 2022
Collage and mixed media on paper, framed artwork – 17 × 17 cm

This series reflects on death, loss, and the fleeting nature of life.

It captures the fragile beauty of life and the quiet alchemy of letting go in the face of loss and mortality

Inspired by The Dead Christ by Hans Holbein the Younger (1520–1522), this work revisits the motif of the recumbent body through a play of fragments, colours, and textures.
Coloured bands — yellow, blue, black, and red — structure the composition like a visual score.
At the centre, the face of Christ appears still alive: tiny air bubbles seem to escape from his mouth, evoking the final breath, that fragile passage between life and death.
The collage both reveals and conceals, allowing the trace of the body to emerge as a surviving image.
Presented in a light wooden frame, the piece becomes both a study and a meditation on the persistence of sacred imagery in contemporary art.
