Céline, Maman et la poupée
Céline, Maman et la Poupée is a neo-impressionist double portret. Looking at family pictures, I found a black and white photograph of my mother and her great-grand-mother posing in the garden. I made a large painting of it with bright oil colours.
The subject of this painting is the relationship between a little girl and an old woman, about their complicity and about transmission, as well as timelessness. The small girl (Maman) is looking at the old woman (Céline) who is staring at the viewer. Both women hold a doll’s hand, symbol of their complicity and of their close relationship. In some parts of the painting, there is a certain attention to details, precision and realism, and in other parts there is less control, and the fluidity of the paint gives an impression of suspended time. Elsewhere, there is depth, while other areas are flat. The different layers of paint are thin, flowing on the hand-prepared canvas. It is as if the frozen women has been artificially placed in a moving environment.
Céline, Maman et la Poupée is made with oil paint on canvas. Its size makes it a perfect painting for large rooms with straight walls. This extra-large painting is 200 cm high and 150 cm wide. The bright polychrome colours, the figurative neo- impressionist style makes this artwork suitable for modern interiors, living rooms, and open business spaces.
